Blog Journal #6

Honestly, so far using Diigo has been kind of stressful. At first it was not very confusing, and after watching the tutorials I was able to catch on pretty fast. However, last night I was working one of the portfolio items where you had to bookmark an article and then annotate it through Diigo. Even after watching the tutorials and looking it up, I could not figure out how to annotate the article I bookmarked. It literally took me 45 minutes just to realize all I had to do was download the chrome extension that I thought I already downloaded. Anyways it was a stressful time for me because I thought I just wouldn't be able to do the project; thankfully its done and now I know how to use the website.

So far I like blogging a lot more than I thought I would. At first I would dread having to write anything and kind of procrastinate these assignments, but I realized this is not something I should be stressing over. Especially because everyone in this class also has to write a blog, so I'm not alone. I kind of like commenting on other peoples post, its just interesting to see everyone's unique viewpoint on concepts. It is also a nice way for everyone in this class to interact with one another.

An interesting Web 2.0 tool I found was Penzu. Penzu is a website where students can journal online. The journals can be private or shared with others. Honestly, I was already planning on using a tool like this in my future classroom, and this is just a perfect way to convey the image I had in my head for what I wanted to do. I think it is very important for kids to have the opportunity to be able to write about what's going on in their life or about random silly prompts. I think this tool would be a great way for students to do so.

  1. Yepp, I also faced the same problem while using Diigo to complete Portfolio Item #12. Still, everything went well after some time figuring things out. Reading and commenting on others' posts is a good way to learn and interact with people through technology.

  2. Hi Danyel! Penzu sounds like a really cool online tool to use in the classroom! I also had a similar problem with using Diigo where I thought it had been downloaded on chrome but actually wasn't.

  3. Can we share our journals with others through Penzu? I am wondering if Penzu is Web 2.0 tool because "sharing" and "collaboration" are important in Web 2.0 tools. Anyway, I just created an account to explore this tool.
