I do not have much experience using MS Word. I used it some during middle school, but soon I shifted to using Google Docs. I would prefer to use Google Docs really just because that is what I have used for so long. I know exactly how to use it and where everything is on it. I do not think using MS Word would be any harder, Google Docs has just always been more assessable to me.
The educator standard that is most meaningful to me would be to demonstrate cultural competency when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues and interact with them as co-collaborators in student learning. To me, this just means being away of outside or cultural effects that can influence life in a classroom , talking to others, or teaching. I think this is important because at least I have had some teachers that can be very oblivious to children having lives outside of school. You cannot know what everyone is going through, but you can at least be considerate and aware to that fact.
I do agree with the label of a digital native. A digital native is someone who has grown up with technology and has almost always been exposed to it, unlike older generations who did not use technology until college or later in life. I can see a difference in how I and digital immigrants use technology. I think the biggest difference is that most older people only use technology to contact people, and people my age use technology for everything. Digital natives are very dependent of technology. I think future students are gonna depend on technology even more than people do today. Children today are already exposed to a lot of forms of technology which I think will lead to more harm than good in the future.
Hi Danyel'! I agree with you that Google Docs is easier to use sometimes because I have been using it for 3 years during high school, too! I can also collaborate with teachers and friends directly on Google Docs, seeing people's comments and corrections.
ReplyDeleteHey Danyel! I agree with you that future generations are going to spend on technology for everything. I feel like our generation was the last one to truly experience life with minimal technology. I remember having printed worksheets for classwork and workbooks for homework. I also remember having a composition notebook as my planner in elementary school. Now students have resorted to google classroom for everything including their homework. It is crazy to see how much society has changed in such a short time span. It makes me wonder what life will look like in five years.
ReplyDeleteWe need to be aware of many issues involving technologies such as social, ethical, and legal issues. However, we also need to think about something positive that might enhance our education with technologies. For example, researchers have been studying how they can incorporate social media in education. What do you think about using social media in your classroom?
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would like to limit the amount of technology use, I think it is the only way future generations of children will be able to actually learn material given. Even now it is to a point where children cannot hold focus for very long on something other than a technological device, so even though I do not think they are beneficial to actual learning I believe classrooms will have to use it in the future to teach their kids.
DeleteHi Danyel. I find it fascinating that you prefer Google Docs more than MS Word. I am the opposite, I grew up using MS Word so much, even as far as taking a couple classes geared to understanding Office's MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint front and back.
DeleteI have to agree with your reply to Professor Hajeen, as generations progress technology is going to have to be used on a daily basis as a tool for teaching and learning. Of course there will have to be restrictions pre-programmed within a PC, but the ways of teaching will have to be in a different way of interactive.
