Blog Journal #1

    Hi! My name is Danyel' Smith. I am a freshman at FSU, and I plan on majoring in elementary education. Even though it is not required I would like to minor in either astronomy or physics if I can fit it into my schedule. I am from Panama City, Florida and lived right on the beach so that is where I spent most of my free time. Also I have worked at a gymnastics facility for the past five years. I was a competitive gymnast when I was younger, and right when I turned 14 I was hired at the same gym I competed at. Even though I cannot do almost any of the skills I used to be able to do, I still enjoy being at the gym and teaching kids how to do gymnastics.

    I have almost no experiences with technology past using canvas and zoom. Canvas is the only type of technology my old school used for assignments and information. Zoom was only used people were quarantined and could not attend in-person classes. However, last year I did not get quarantined so I have not had to use the app since the pandemic first hit. Furthermore, I have never been exposed to actual technology programs like MS office or even designed websites. 

    My personal learning networks would consist most of apps such as Twitter, Instagram, and even Tiktok. I learn something new every time I open one of these apps. On an app like Twitter a lot of the time I will come across a post that shares new information about what is going on within an educators life, or way to try and improve the educational system. Also offline I try to reach out to other people in my major and talk to them about their feelings about a class or future with teaching.

    What a talented girl! I love gymnastics. Don't worry about your current level of knowledge or skills. This course is not for advanced learners. I hope to see you often in my virtual office. :-)

    Hi Danyel'! I think that would be so cool to study astronomy or physics here at FSU! I am sure you could find time to fit it in your schedule. I am a junior here so when I was in high school, we did not even use zoom, so I totally get how you feel being new to all of these technology platforms. I am so jealous that you are a gymnast, I always wanted to be, but I tried and just did not have the skills for it. Would you ever want to get back into gymnastics now that you are in college? I know there is not as much free time now. Goodluck in all of your classes!

    Nice to meet you, Danyel'! It's amazing that you are doing gymnastics. Do you consider joining FSU's cheerleading squad or perhaps the circus to continue your talent? By the way, Zoom, Canvas, and social media are really the most common online platforms for people to use these days due to the pandemic, but I am sure you are also excited to learn more about different learning apps and techniques in this class. Hope you have a wonderful semester!

    So far I have actually really enjoyed this class. I have been doing this class completely online, and it has been the easiest class of this semester for me. All the assignments are decently easy and pretty straightforward so it's kind of relaxing to be able to work for this class. Even the assignments that take more effort to complete are still not as difficult as some of my other classes, and I absolutely love that. Also, I love how easy communication is for this class, I don't have to wait days or weeks for a response and that makes this class a lot easier too.       Copyright is when someone has exclusive rights to their work, and others can use this work as long as others pay attribute to said owner. Fair use is a set of guidelines that allow people to use said materials for educational and nonprofit purposes. As a teacher I would just assume all material is copyrighted. I would also encourage students to always use citations and learn how to protect their own work.      Technology implementation issues can be described as the social, legal, or even ethical issues children can face when using technology in a classroom. An example of a technology implementation issue would be cyberbullying. In my future classroom, this could be discouraged through conversations about how bad and the effects cyberbullying can have on people, also by monitoring what is going on on the technology that is being used.       I do not have much experience using MS Word. I used it some during middle school, but soon I shifted to using Google Docs. I would prefer to use Google Docs really just because that is what I have used for so long. I know exactly how to use it and where everything is on it. I do not think using MS Word would be any harder, Google Docs has just always been more assessable to me.      The educator standard that is most meaningful to me would be to demonstrate cultural competency when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues and interact with them as co-collaborators in student learning. To me, this just means being away of outside or cultural effects that can influence life in a classroom , talking to others, or teaching. I think this is important because at least I have had some teachers that can be very oblivious to children having lives outside of school.
